An Attractive Region

Between the 1990 and 1999 censuses, the population of Midi-Pyrenees continued its growth, with the addition of over 121,000 residents, due to significant migration into the region, and a positive birth rate.
The data resulting from the partial census carried out into 2004-2005 classify Midi-Pyrenees in 2nd position for annual demographic rise (+1.15%), after Languedoc-Roussillon. Since 1999, the growth does not fail : the region accomodates 29,300 additional inhabitants each year, with a rate of growth twice higher than the national average (+1.15%) over the last six years.

Nevertheless, the administrative Departments are not growing at the same rate. The population growth rate in the Haute-Garonne, and in the Hérault Department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, is the highest in France  (>1.4% per year, from 1990 to 1999). As for the other 7 admisnistrative Departments of Midi-Pyrenees, population is steady, and has in fact dropped in Aveyron, Gers and Hautes-Pyrénées.
