Education
Toulouse is the leading university city in France outside of Paris. With 114.,000 students, Midi-Pyrenees offers, in aeronautics and space, a wide choice of educational programs (secondary, university, and on-going training) including courses for skilled workers, secondary schools with specialized aeronautics curricula, prestigious engineering schools, and training courses directly related to operation, maintenance and sales of specific aerospace products.
The programs offered in Midi-Pyrenees cover the full range of needs for the aeronautics sector. Over 1,600 engineering and management degrees and some 3,000 other university-level degrees in fields related to aeronautics are awarded each year in our region. In addition, more than 6,000 students receive secondary and post-secondary technical diplomas in technological subjects.
The presence of training centers that are unique both in France and Europe:
- 3 Grandes Ecoles Engineering Schools train 75% of the engineers in the French Aerospace Group of Schools:
 |
SUPAERO
(National Aerospace Engineering School) |
 |
ENSICA
(National School of Aeronautics Construction Engineering) |
 |
ENAC
(National Civil Aviation School) |
These three prestigious “Grandes Ecoles” engineering schools are pivotal institutions in the creation of Aerospace Campus, the first European campus devoted to aeronautics and space. The goal is to create the largest European University campus in the fields Aeronautics, Space and Embedded Systems, and to ensure its visibility to the intenational business community.
In this way, the leading players in education and research will be united on the same site :
- Grouping of the three GEA G randes Ecoles (prestigious aeronautics engineering schools), SUP'AERO, ENSICA, ENAC, and the universities and university institutes located in the same geographical zone as Paul Sabatier University (science faculty), INSA (National Institute of Applied Sciences) and INPT (National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse).
- Grouping of 1,000 researchers, primarily from ONERA, CCR EADS, CNRS and CNES.
- Located on the Montaudran site in Greater Toulouse, home to leading aeronautics companies, including Airbus, Thales, Siemens VDO Automotive, Latécoère, Liebherr Aerospace.
The "Aerospace Campus" will also offer joint resources and services : convention center, restaurants, public transport, etc.
Moreover, in September 2006, a unique organization called "ISAE" (Advanced Aeronautics and Space Institute) will be inaugurated. This public establishment, devoted to science, culture and professional endeavors, will merge two of Toulouse's aeronautics engineering schools, Sup'Aero and ENSICA, with their 70 permanent researchers-instructors, and 1,300 students.
